This June 1948 Fawcett issue delivers exactly what its cover promises: Captain Marvel Jr., fists ready in his blue-and-gold costume, throwing a punch that erupts into a spectacular "SPLASH" as Mr. Hydro — the Man Who Turned to Water — dissolves into a burst of liquid while his sinister, grinning face floats eerily above the spray. It's a wonderfully imaginative visual problem for a superhero, and Kurt Schaffenberger's cover art captures both the absurdity and the genuine menace of facing a villain you simply can't hit.
