Captain America and the Mighty Avengers #8
Part of Marvel's 2015 Secret Wars event, this "Last Days" tie-in closes out the series on a deeply human note — the cover by Luke Ross and colorist Rachelle Rosenberg says it all, presenting a crowd of frightened, bewildered civilians surrounding a determined group of heroes that includes a black-and-white-costumed Captain America, Spectrum, She-Hulk, and Spider-Man, all bathed in an ominous reddish haze. The sheer number of ordinary people pressed around these heroes gives the image a weight and urgency that feels earned rather than manufactured. Al Ewing's run has consistently championed street-level heroism, and this final issue, titled "Bad News and Worse News," looks poised to deliver exactly that kind of grounded, emotionally resonant sendoff.
