Candy #5
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThere's a breezy, laugh-out-loud energy to this August 1948 Quality Comics teen humor book, with Harry Sahle's cover capturing a yellow jalopy barreling at full speed — its oblivious, letterman-jacketed driver grinning ear to ear while a wide-eyed Candy clings on in sheer alarm, completely unaware they're about to hit a nail-studded board in the road. The driver's cheerful quip — "Gee, Candy, I sure get a big bang out of driving in the country!" — lands with perfect comic timing given what's lurking beneath those tires. Sahle's crisp, expressive linework gives the whole scene wonderful kinetic energy, and the lively vignettes of teen antics woven right into the title lettering set the fun, lighthearted tone for everything inside.
