Buster Crabbe faces danger in the desert when he discovers a "half-crazy hermit" hiding in a remote ore den, whom the sheriff had ordered him to avoid. After being scared off by the mysterious figure and his strange green-skinned companion creatures, Buster helps the sheriff pursue the hermit into the wilderness, where they ultimately succeed in driving the creatures away. The issue also includes a separate historical feature titled "The Showdown," recounting the true story of Commodore P. Owens and an extraordinary rifle-versus-six-gun confrontation in Holbrook, Arizona on September 4, 1887, and examining the historical role of firearms on the American frontier.
