“The Swim For Life”

In "The Swim For Life," Buster Crabbe takes on a perilous rescue mission when his friend, swimmer Esther Robert, goes missing after a plane crash in the Mato Grosso. Tracking her down, Buster discovers her held captive by a rogue white man ruling a remote native village, where he’s set to be sacrificed to a fearsome green gorilla. With courage and quick thinking, Buster overcomes the beast and escapes with Esther, sparking a violent reaction from the enraged villagers. The story, illustrated with dynamic energy by Mike Roy (who both pencils and inks), captures the adventure and tension of a classic pulp-era tale.

When swimmer Esther Robert's plane is reported to have crashed in the Mato Grosso, Buster joins the search for his friend. He finds her held captive by a renegade white man who rules a native village. The chief is delighted to have another captive, as he can sacrifice Buster to their "roarer" and keep Esther for himself. Buster defeats the green gorilla, then escapes with Esther. The natives, angered by the gorilla's death, throw the chief to the piranhas.
