From Image Comics, Burnouts #1 arrives with a cover that immediately sets a delightfully weird tone — a wide-eyed kid in a red hoodie, a punk girl wielding a baseball bat, and a bearded slacker casually smoking are all surrounded by a crowd of looming green aliens and tendrils snaking around their feet. The contrast between the teens' very human attitudes (terror, defiance, and remarkable indifference) and the extraterrestrial threat behind them makes this opener feel both funny and genuinely unsettling. If the cover is any indication, this 2018 Image series has a sharp sense of humor and a lot of strange fun ahead.
