This is the first collected volume of Tsutomu Nihei's landmark cyberpunk manga series, originally serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine. Set in a seemingly endless, decaying megastructure known as the City, it follows the silent, gun-wielding protagonist Killy as he searches for humans with the Net Terminal Gene, the key to halting the City's uncontrolled expansion. The volume collects the opening chapters of the series, establishing its bleak, atmospheric world and minimalist storytelling style.
