Bugs Bunny's Christmas Funnies #7
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeBugs Bunny's Christmas Funnies #7 (December 1956, Dell) is recognized by multiple collector databases as the first comic-book appearance of Speedy Gonzales — the Academy Award-winning Warner Bros. character who had only debuted on screen the year before in the 1955 Friz Freleng short of the same name. That makes the issue a genuine cross-media milestone: a freshly minted animated star crossing into the printed page within roughly a year of his theatrical breakthrough. As the seventh and penultimate entry in Dell's long-running annual Dell Giant holiday series (1950–1958), it also represents the mature peak of Dell's strategy of packaging the full Looney Tunes ensemble into a single, oversized seasonal comic — a format that gave Warner Bros. characters a consistent print identity throughout the early Silver Age.

The Bugs Bunny's Christmas Funnies series launched in November 1950 and ran annually through 1958 as part of Dell's broader 'Dell Giant' line of oversized 100-page anthologies. Each issue gathered the core Looney Tunes cast — Bugs, Porky, Daffy, Tweety and Sylvester, Elmer Fudd, Mary Jane and Sniffles, and rotating supporting players — into all-new holiday stories produced under license from Warner Bros. Story and art credits across the series, including issue #7, are listed as unknown by the Grand Comics Database and MyComicShop, which is consistent with Dell's general practice of publishing licensed cartoon comics without on-page creator attribution during this era. By 1956, the series had settled into a reliable 100-page, full-color format with a back-cover pin-up.
