This third volume in the Bruxelles series sweeps across centuries of Belgian history, from the cannon smoke and cavalry clashes of Waterloo — vividly rendered in the cover's lower half — all the way to the mid-twentieth century, symbolized by Brussels' own Atomium rising at center. Framing that journey are two striking figures: a young man with a guitar evoking the postwar cultural awakening, and a resolute nurse in Red Cross uniform standing against a backdrop of wartime fire.
