Breath of Shadows #2

The cover of this second issue from IDW's original series is a mesmerizing swirl of fiery oranges, reds, and blues — concentric wood-grain rings spiral outward from a dark tunnel-like void at the center, where a lone red-clad figure stands silhouetted against a star-flecked darkness. Alex Cormack's psychedelic, Art Nouveau-framed artwork gives the whole image the feel of something ancient and alive pressing in around that solitary human presence. With Rich Douek writing and Justin Birch on letters, Breath of Shadows shapes up as one of 2023's most visually distinctive horror-tinged reads.
