Boy Detective Dan Taylor faces a homicidal maniac who laughs while committing murders in a skyscraper. The killer traps Dan and a woman in a room where a brick wall slowly descends to crush them, but Dan jams the mechanism and saves them both. In a separate story, Pete Dowell, a criminal who read crime-doesn't-pay reports, moves to the country and gets a job training, but then targets a wealthy couple's emerald collection at a party, planning to rob them at a shabby hotel hideout.

Dan Tayler, the boy detective, infiltrates a dangerous kidnapping scheme by impersonating a millionaire's son aboard a speeding express train, only to find himself trapped with two ruthless criminals and racing against time to stop the mastermind behind the plot. With Sergeant Gargon and the police closing in from all angles, Dan must outwit his captors before they discover his identity—or worse, before the mysterious leader arrives to seal his fate.

The Case of the Construction Crooks
7 pp

When a construction site wall nearly collapses on a crowd of schoolchildren, Dan Taylor's quick thinking saves the day—but his investigation into the "accident" reveals something far more sinister. Working undercover with Sgt. Gargon to infiltrate the construction crew, Dan must uncover a web of sabotage and murder before the killers strike again. A dangerous chase across a half-built skyscraper will force the boy detective to confront the mastermind behind it all.

The Smart Guy
6 pp · Crime

Pete Dowell thinks he's found the perfect crime formula: study how other criminals got caught, then build a ruthless organization that never makes mistakes. But even the smartest criminal can't account for the one variable he refuses to control—the woman he marries to keep her quiet becomes the key witness who brings his entire operation down.
