Issue three of J. Michael Straczynski and Colleen Doran's quietly haunting series finds a dark-cloaked figure cradling a young woman amid scattered pages and spent shell casings, white doves taking flight around them in a moody nocturnal alley. The torn pages bearing ghostly faces — and the birds breaking free into the blue-grey dark — give the whole image a sense of souls slipping between worlds. Doran's cover work is atmospheric and tender, making this 2006 Icon title feel like something you'd want to read slowly, alone, with the lights low.
