Carol falls for the son of the factory boss where she and her father work. The boss makes it clear that her father will lose his job and his pension unless she breaks off with his son. She attempts to do so, but Philip grabs her and drives her out of town to talk. In his anger, he drives too fast and has an accident. Damage to her optic nerve causes Carol to lose her sight and Philip's father, feeling guilty for her condition, consents to their marriage.
