Count Renaud enters the offices of two jewelers, announcing he has the fabulous Beaufort Emerald. Joan is on hand, wanting the story for her newspaper, and is invited to dinner at Mr. Bentley's that evening to get the story. Officer Dan Garret, knowing that the emerald carries with it a history of death for its owners, decides to be around....just in case, and learns that, during the time of the Crusades, the Red Knight, possessing the emerald, stops to rest for the evening and is killed for the gem by Count Beaufort. When the Knight and curse on the gem seems to return, the Beetle steps in.
