Blue Beetle #1
Charlton Comics' 1964 relaunch of Blue Beetle kicks off with a cover that promises monster-sized thrills — the costumed hero in his teal suit leaps dynamically onto a towering bandage-wrapped mummy looming over a city street, while a terrified man, a red-haired woman, and a police officer look on in alarm below. The bold cover tag, "The Giant Mummy Who Was Not Dead," sets up exactly the kind of pulpy, larger-than-life adventure that made Charlton a distinctive corner of early '60s comics. Cover pencils by Bill Fraccio and inks by Frank McLaughlin give the scene a lively, energetic feel that holds up well alongside the interior work of writer Joe Gill and artist Bill Fraccio.
