Valiant's pale, red-eyed nanite soldier dominates this March 1993 cover, battered and bloodied yet still coiled with raw intensity as an armored red-suited adversary opens fire on him in the foreground. Smoke, flame, and a burst of gunfire fill the fiery background, conveying a relentless, no-quarter confrontation. Don Perlin and Chris Ivy's cover work gives "An Ax to Grind" a visceral energy that makes this second issue feel like a series already hitting its stride.
