Charlton's Blondie #222 from 1976 captures the Bumstead household chaos at its most relatable — on the cover, poor Dagwood is clinging desperately to a rooftop TV antenna while the family dog Daisy has scrambled to the very top, clearly wanting no part of bath time, as Blondie peeks in from the lower corner with an expression that says it all. Paul Fung Jr.'s linework is lively and expressive, wringing every drop of slapstick out of the scene with Dagwood's pleading speech bubble: "Come on, Daisy, take your bath like a nice doggie!" If you love warm, good-natured domestic comedy done with real craft, this "All New" issue of Chic Young's beloved strip-to-comics adaptation is a cheerful addition to any collection.
