Juanjo Guarnido's cover for *Blacksad* #5 is a sun-drenched marvel: the cat detective Blacksad cruises a flat, open highway in a gleaming yellow convertible Cadillac, flanked by vast fields of golden crops stretching to the horizon under a luminous sky. The whole composition bathes in warm yellows, perfectly echoing the story's title, "Amarillo" — Spanish for yellow — and hinting at a road-trip adventure set against wide-open American landscapes. Winner of the Premio Nacional del Cómic 2014, this fifth volume from writer Juan Díaz Canales and artist Guarnido is a beautifully crafted entry in one of European comics' most compelling noir series.
