“The Temple of Doom”

In "The Temple of Doom," the Blackhawks are whisked away by a mysterious defense contractor, Tavis, who unveils a revolutionary ducted-fan aircraft—only to trap them in a remote Communist nation. There, they’re forced to star in a grim propaganda film orchestrated by the tyrannical General Molok, a dictator with a taste for cinematic spectacle. Written by Joe Millard and brought to life by Dick Dillin’s dynamic art and Chuck Cuidera’s sharp inks, this 1956 adventure blends Cold War tension with a surreal, high-stakes performance that tests the team’s resolve. The cover by Dick Dillin and Chuck Cuidera captures the eerie spectacle with striking precision.

Tavis, a defense contractor to the nations of the free world, demonstrates a new “ducted-fan aircraft” (an individual flying platform) to Blackhawk and his men. Ushering them aboard a larger version of the craft that seats all seven Blackhawks, Tavis (from a safe vantage point) activates a remote control that spirits them off to an unnamed Communist nation. There, the waiting General Molok, a dictator and would-be filmmaker, forces the Blackhawks to perform in a propaganda film - with deadly consequences for the Magnificent Seven.
