“Lost Souls”

"Lost Souls" kicks off a chilling chapter in the Blackest Night saga, spotlighting the Justice Society of America as they confront the terrifying return of the Black Lanterns. With Mr. Terrific, Power Girl, and Wildcat probing the corpses of Earth-2 Superman and Psycho Pirate for answers, the team is scattered—Liberty Belle battles Black Lantern Johnny Quick, Power Girl is haunted by the undead Lois Lane, and Atom-Smasher and Judomaster witness the horrifying reach of Black Lantern Damage. As Jay Garrick brings the new Dr. Fate into the fray, Mr. Terrific senses a deeper pattern: the Black Lanterns aren’t just attacking—they’re coming for something specific. Written by James Robinson and illustrated by Eddy Barrows, Marcos Marz, and a team of inkers, with colors by Rod Reis and letters by John J. Hill, the issue’s cover by Eddy Barrows captures the grim intensity of the JSA’s desperate stand.

While other JSAers deal with the Black Lanterns, Mr. Terrific, Power Girl, and Wildcat examine the corpses of the Superman of Earth-2 and the Psycho Pirate for some clue as to how to stop the Black Lanterns. While, Liberty Belle faces Black Lantern Johnny Quick, Power Girl is distracted by Black Lantern Lois Lane, and Atom-Smasher and Judomaster witness Black Lantern Damage's horrifying actions. Jay Garrick brings the new Dr. Fate to help, but Mr. Terrific realizes that his predecessor will have figured out what they are doing, and, in fact, the Black Lanterns are heading their way.
