The story follows Jefferson Pierce as he returns to the superhero life after a long hiatus, facing a new generation of threats in his hometown of Metropolis while grappling with his legacy as a hero and educator. The volume also includes a backup story from Black Lightning #1 (1977) and a cover gallery featuring art by John Giang and others.
In "Cold Dead Hands, Part One: Ready to Do It All Over," Black Lightning faces a deadly escalation when White Thunder ambushes a convoy carrying the Simmons family to a court hearing, leading to tragic chaos and the wrongful death of Rick and Abigail Simmons. With the surviving Simmons boys on the run and armed with one of White Thunder’s weapons, Black Lightning must protect them from both the police and the relentless threat of the masked assailant. Written by Tony Isabella and illustrated with intensity by Clayton Henry—whose dynamic art is echoed in the cover by Henry and Mark Morales—this gripping issue sets a tense, high-stakes tone for the story ahead.
