Black Lagoon #1
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis first volume of the manga series introduces the crew of the Black Lagoon, a band of mercenary pirates operating out of the lawless Thai port city of Roanapur. It collects the opening story arc, where a Japanese businessman named Rokuro Okajima is kidnapped by the Lagoon Company and ultimately joins their ranks, adopting the nickname Rock. The volume sets the tone for the series with its gritty action, dark humor, and morally ambiguous characters, including the trigger-happy Revy and the stoic Dutch.
The story begins in the shadowy world of international crime, where a stolen compact disk becomes the center of a deadly game. When a Japanese company’s low-level manager is sent to Indonesia to negotiate for the disk’s return, he finds himself caught between rival gangs and a ruthless mercenary band hired by a Russian syndicate. Written by Rei Hiroe and Dan Kanemitsu, with art by Hiroe and inks by a team including B-River and John Hunt, the issue sets a gritty, high-stakes tone from the first page. The cover, penciled and inked by Rei Hiroe, captures the tension with a stark, cinematic presence.
