Charlton's beloved wild-horse series delivers real tension on this 1965 cover, where the magnificent black stallion Black Fury rears up defiantly against a rocky canyon backdrop, standing guard over a pair of bear cubs lurking in the shadows behind him. Two shadowy, gun-toting figures crouch in the foreground, their dialogue making their threat unmistakably clear — they'll shoot the horse if that's what it takes to get to the grizzlies. Cover artist Rocco "Rocke" Mastroserio puts the stakes front and center, and the interior promises more with the story "The Fugitives" from writer Joe Gill and artists Charles Nicholas and Vince Alascia.
