Black Fury, a magnificent black horse, is freed by a cowboy after being threatened by outlaws, and the grateful animal helps his rescuer escape to the hills. Two days later in Cimarron City, a man named Andrus attempts to buy Black Fury from the horse's owner to prevent the outlaw Tilson from obtaining him, offering to gentle the horse and eventually give him as a wedding present. When Andrus and others transport Black Fury by wagon, outlaws intercept the shipment; Tilson and his men kill a guard and attempt to steal the horse, but Black Fury helps thwart the robbery and Tilson is captured.
