Black Diamond Western #53
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeBlack Diamond, a masked Western hero, confronts the outlaw gang led by Ragen in a fierce gunfight after their signals are jammed. The gang attempts to escape by boat across a lake, but Black Diamond and the sheriff pursue them, resulting in gunfire and explosions that force the outlaws to abandon their escape. The sheriff recovers survivors from the water, discovering that Ragen himself has learned about Black Diamond's true identity firsthand. The issue also includes a "Western Lore" feature recounting the historical practice of buffalo soldiers delivering mail across the frontier using split-stick message delivery systems.
When the Ragen Gang flees a posse across the lake to Terror Island, Black Diamond follows—but the chase takes a deadly turn when the gang's own hired boatmen reveal their true colors and scuttle the barge, forcing our hero and his companion to swim for their lives. Marooned on an island crawling with two dozen bandits and armed with nothing but their wits and waterlogged guns, Black Diamond must outthink the ruthless outlaws if he and Bumper are going to live to see the mainland again.
Buck Roper is accused of murdering the paymaster at a range rodeo, but his loyal friend "Hotfoot" knows he's innocent—so innocent that he begins spinning lies to help clear Buck's name. The problem is, each fabrication only tightens the noose around his friend, and when the real killers catch wind of Hotfoot's interference, they decide to silence him. Buck must find the truth before it's too late, with only a small whittled totem pole as a clue to who really committed the crime.
Red Fire is kidnapped along with most of his Rocky Valley tribe, imprisoned in a mountain cave by a ruthless land grabber named Jamison who plans to flood their ancestral valley for his own cattle. After a harrowing escape and a desperate race to the sheriff's office, Red Fire must rally his people and race against time to stop Jamison from dynamiting the stream and destroying everything they hold dear.
