Kelly Thompson and Meredith McClaren's Black Cloak reaches its fifth chapter with a cover that's quietly unsettling — a blue-haired figure in a black top pulls a hood over her head while her reflection in a nearby mirror watches back with a guarded, searching expression. McClaren's warm amber palette contrasted against cool violet and blue tones gives the whole image a tense, introspective mood that suggests identity and duality are very much at the heart of this series. A great moment to check in on one of Image's more distinctive ongoing titles of 2023.
