“Big Wood's Death”

"Big Wood's Death" in Black Cat Comics #15 (1949) delivers a chilling mystery from the pen and pencil of Russell Stamm, whose tight storytelling and moody art bring the eerie atmosphere of a seaside aquarium to life. When Scarlet revisits her old teacher, Professor Fychfud, now in charge of the local aquarium, a tour takes a terrifying turn after she discovers human remains in the piranha tank—only to be shoved inside moments later. With the help of Sandy, she returns at night to uncover the truth, but finds the professor already caught in the grip of a far more sinister force. The cover by Lee Elias captures the suspense with a haunting, shadowed image of the aquarium’s depths.
