Norma tient un restaurant au bord de la route 66. On est en 1971 et les jeunes gens américains partent au Vietnam. Buzz junior, son fils, aussi. Et Norma attend son retour entre Jimmy Red, l'indien qui travaille avec elle, et le vieux coiffeur, Homer qui vend des bibles, Jenny la fiancée, et les quelques êtres humains qui s'arrêtent sur cette route où l'on ne fait que passer.
