Styled like a battered exploitation-era pulp poster, this 2016 Image issue puts Meiko Maki front and center — rendered in stark graphic tones, wild-haired and defiant, with a second figure screaming in anguish beside her and shadowy suited figures lurking in the background. The taglines "Bound by Law… Down for Justice…" and "Meiko Maki is an Extraordinary Machine!" set a charged, confrontational tone that feels entirely at home in Kelly Sue DeConnick and Taki Soma's sharp feminist science-fiction world. Valentine De Landro's cover design channels vintage grindhouse aesthetics while making every pink-and-black inch of it feel urgent and very much of a piece with the series' uncompromising voice.
