Volume 13 of Naoki Urasawa and Takashi Nagasaki's Billy Bat presents a striking close-up of a curly-haired young man holding a red pencil or marker toward the viewer, his expression sharp and quietly intense — the mark of a creator deep in thought, or perhaps something more urgent. Swirling red and teal sketch lines cross his face and the teal background, hinting at the blurred boundary between the comics being drawn and the world around them. Urasawa's draftsmanship, brought to French readers by Pika Édition in 2014, is as compelling as ever in this engrossing series.
