In Big Shot #88 (1948), a whirlwind of wacky genius crashes into Doc’s lab, where eccentric inventor Slap Happy unveils a parade of delightfully absurd contraptions—from a pie stretcher to a bowling ball that guarantees a perfect game, and even a pistol designed so you can’t shoot anyone. Tired of the chaos, Doc finally snaps and introduces Slap Happy to McFiddle’s own invention: the bum’s rush! Written and illustrated by Boody Rogers, this delightfully silly issue is a rare showcase of the creator’s unique comedic flair, with a cover by Boody Rogers that captures the zany energy of the story.

An eccentric inventor barges into Doc's lab, offering to be his assistant and showing him his inventions, such as a pie stretcher, an umbrella without a top (for days when it is not raining), a perfect game bowling ball, a toeless and heel-less sock, striped paint for barber poles, an electric iron with wheels, hot ice cream, a pistol with a curved end (which makes shooting someone impossible), and more. Slap Happy finally has enough of the inventons and introduces McFiddle to an invention of his own: the bum's rush!
