“Le mystère de l'idole masquée”

In "Le mystère de l'idole masquée," Bernard Baily’s art brings to life a strange and unsettling tale from 1972, where a mysterious moon-dweller demands a cannon to return to the stars—only for the truth to reveal a far more earthbound secret. Bill Ely’s cover captures the eerie tension of the story, as men build a device that’s less a rocket and more a trap, sealing away a mole-man beneath the surface.

Men are compelled to create a cannon for a being claiming to be a moon-dweller, supposedly to send him back to the moon, but the moon-dweller is really a mole-man and the cannon is to send him back into the Earth. Once accomplished the men seal the hole in the ground so he can't return.
