Beware the Creeper #3
Cliff Chiang's cover for this 2003 Vertigo issue places the wild-haired, green-skinned Creeper in a crouching, feral pose at the base of a statue of Sainte Jeanne d'Arc — the contrast between the armored, serene martyr above and the grinning chaos below is genuinely arresting. The teal-and-lime color palette makes the image pop with cool confidence, fitting for a series that wore Vertigo's mature-readers sensibility proudly. "Act III" promises the story is building toward something, and if the cover's playful tension between saint and scoundrel is any indication, Jason Hall and Cliff Chiang are steering things somewhere unexpected.
