Betty and Veronica #2

Adam Hughes captures the central tension of this 2017 Archie Comics series beautifully: blonde Betty and dark-haired Veronica stand side by side, hands formed into a shared heart shape — yet a fiery crack splits the image between them, autumn leaves swirling around the pair. The "VS." blazing in the title is perfectly reflected in that push-and-pull of friendship and rivalry the cover conveys. Colored by José Villarrubia, this is a genuinely striking piece of work that makes issue #2 feel both warm and dramatically charged.
