“The "Salvage Depot"”

This sun-soaked 1968 Archie Series issue captures a perfectly timed beach comedy moment: Archie carries Betty out of the water in his arms while three dazed fellows (sporting cartoon stars around their heads) splash helplessly behind them, the witty exchange in their speech bubbles landing the punchline with great comic timing. Dan DeCarlo's cover art is breezy and charming, making great use of the shoreline setting with its rope lane markers and rocky backdrop. It's a fun snapshot of Riverdale's favorite duo at their most summery, with Frank Doyle's story "The Salvage Depot" waiting inside to keep the laughs going.
