Bernard Lermite #7
The seventh album in Martin Veyron's Bernard Lermite series arrives from Albin Michel with the cheeky title Le Pagure Est Connu — a pun-loving nod to the hermit crab (pagure) at the heart of this sardonic slice-of-life comedy. The cover sets the tone perfectly: a wide-eyed, visibly alarmed Bernard finds himself chest-deep in what appears to be a tiled swimming pool, hands clasped over his mouth in barely contained horror or disbelief. Veyron's warm, loose linework and understated humor are on full display here, making this 1993 volume a delightful addition to one of French alternative comics' most endearingly awkward characters.
