Jason Lutes's long-running graphic portrait of Weimar-era Berlin continues with this 2015 installment from Drawn & Quarterly. The cover's stark geometry — a bold pink triangle cutting across black, framing a circular vignette of a lone figure mid-sprint across a rain-slicked street — gives the issue an immediate sense of urgency and unease. Lutes's clean, expressive linework does exactly what great cover design should: it makes you want to know where that person is running, and why.
