Beowulf #4
DC's sword-and-sorcery hero rides into wild territory in this November 1975 issue, with cover art by Ricardo Villamonte that sets the stakes immediately: Beowulf, horned helmet gleaming, sword raised high atop a rearing horse, faces off against a caped, sinister figure swooping through the sky above a glowering yellow moon and a dark castle silhouette — while a blonde woman dangles helplessly in the struggle below. The banner says it all: "Beowulf Meets Dracula," and Villamonte's dynamic composition makes that clash feel genuinely charged. Writer Michael Uslan and artist Villamonte were carving out a bold corner of the DC line with this series, and this issue — "Valley in the Shadow of Death!" — looks like one of its most atmospheric entries yet.
