Battleground #3

From Atlas Comics' gritty war anthology comes this January 1955 issue of Battleground, featuring the story "Nao Kung!" Russ Heath's cover puts you right in the thick of combat — a battle-worn American soldier charges forward, rifle raised and bayonet in hand, screaming against a smoke-filled battlefield as fellow troops press the attack in the background. It's the kind of visceral, ground-level war imagery that made Atlas's mid-'50s war titles genuinely compelling, with interior art by Joe Maneely adding further punch to the package.
