"The Order" follows Colonel Henry Sanford and Lieutenant Alan Lewis as they investigate damage to the Mao-Tung Bridge in Indo-China during a conflict involving the Binh Xuyen, rival Vietnamese factions, and French colonial interests. When the young soldier reporting to headquarters expresses insecurity about his age and ability to do the job, the colonel reflects on the complexities of the situation—where multiple groups fight each other rather than a unified enemy, complicating the military response. A secondary story titled "Supermen" depicts Nazi soldiers being trained as an elite force, with the narrative describing their mobilization for war through blitzkrieg tactics and coordinated military operations.
