A red helicopter swoops low over a rocky battlefield as soldiers clash below — and that grimacing enemy soldier in the foreground, pistol leveled straight at the reader, makes it clear things have gotten very personal, very fast. Jack Kirby's pencils (inked by Christopher Rule) pack the cover with kinetic urgency, from the firefight on the ground to the tense figure visible through the chopper's cockpit. Promising "All Brand-New Battle Adventures" including "Enemy Action!" and "They Shall Not Pass!", this October 1959 issue of Battle delivers exactly the taut Cold War-era tension the cover advertises.
