Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #170

Part two of the "Irresistible" arc lands with a cover that pulls you right into Gotham's vertigo-inducing heights — a man in a suit plunges helplessly down the face of a building while a looming, monstrous figure hovers in the darkness above him, rendered in Tony Harris's coolly atmospheric painted style. The tension between the falling figure's desperate expression and the shadowy creature at the top makes this one of those covers you genuinely have to stop and study. Peyer and Harris are clearly building toward something unsettling in this three-part story, and issue #170 makes a compelling case for seeing it through to the end.
