Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #133

Part two of five in the "Siege" arc, this September 2000 installment of Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight puts the Dark Knight in genuine peril — the cover by Marshall Rogers and John Cebollero captures Batman swooping down from a moonlit Gotham sky straight into the barrel of a massive cannon, while two heavily armed gunmen with rifles and ammunition belts hold their ground below. It's a tense, kinetic composition that makes the threat feel immediate and the odds decidedly unfavorable for our hero. With Archie Goodwin and James Robinson sharing writing duties, this is a story that clearly isn't pulling its punches.
