Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #118

Part of DC's sprawling 1999 "No Man's Land" crossover, this issue drops Batman into a world stripped of order — and the cover by Klaus Janson captures that tension perfectly, with the Dark Knight looming large amid rising flames, his cape spread wide and both hands outstretched as if struggling to hold chaos itself at bay. The bold title "Balance" hints at the precarious tightrope Gotham's protector walks in a city reduced to lawless ruins. With writing by Greg Rucka and art by Jason Pearson, this is a compelling entry in the Legends of the Dark Knight series at one of its most ambitious moments.
