“Un parfait innocent”
About this Collection

This collected edition presents the 2014 Urban Comics release of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's seminal Batman story, The Killing Joke. The graphic novel explores the Joker's origin and his attempt to drive Commissioner Gordon insane, while Batman races to stop his plan. It includes Bolland's fully recolored artwork and additional material from the original 1988 publication.

"Un parfait innocent" delivers a chilling, tightly wound thriller in the shadow of Gotham’s darkest corners. Written by Alan Moore and Jérôme Wicky, with every brushstroke, ink line, and color tone crafted by Brian Bolland, this 2014 Urban Comics edition presents a haunting variation on a classic tale—where Batman confronts a Joker who’s not quite who he seems, leading to a twisted game of psychological warfare at a carnival gone wrong. The cover, also by Brian Bolland, captures the eerie stillness of a moment before chaos erupts.

Batman visits the Joker in Arkham Asylum only to discover he has been replaced by a double. As Batman attempts to track the villain down, the Joker shows up at the house of Commissioner Gordon where he promptly shoots Barbara and captures her father. The Joker takes Jim to a modified carnival where he tries to drive him mad (partially by showing him pictures of his naked and bleeding daughter). Batman arrives and starts beating on the Joker who attempts to reason with him in his own insane fashion. As things wrap up and the police arrive, the Joker finally tells Batman a joke that he gets.
