Batman Beyond #1

History

The 2011 ongoing grew directly out of the commercial and critical reception of the preceding six-issue miniseries Batman Beyond: Hush Beyond (2010), which writer Adam Beechen and artist Ryan Benjamin had conceived as a deliberate test of whether a more mature, mainline-DC-flavored take on the Beyond universe could sustain an ongoing title. In August 2010 — while the Hush Beyond arc was still running — DC announced the series would continue as an ongoing, with Beechen explicitly framing the project as an attempt to bridge the DC Animated Universe with mainstream DC continuity. Issue #1 launched January 5, 2011, with interior art by Ryan Benjamin (pencils) and John Stanisci (inks), colored by David Baron, and cover art by Dustin Nguyen; the entire run was cut short by September 2011 when Flashpoint and the New 52 rebooted DC's line, leaving several plot threads unresolved and handed off to the subsequent Batman Beyond Unlimited digital-first relaunch.
