RW Lion (an imprint of RW Edizioni, also known as Lion Comics) acquired the Italian publishing and distribution rights to DC Comics, Vertigo, and Wildstorm titles from Planeta DeAgostini in January 2012, and continued Planeta's existing Batman monthly series numbering from issue #54 onward, eventually relaunching with its own #1 to align with DC's New 52 initiative. The Italian Batman monthly had run since June 2007 under Planeta DeAgostini for its first 53 issues. The 2015 issue (#1 in RW Lion's numbering) reprints content from DC Comics' Batman (vol. 2) #1 by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, first published in the United States in November 2011, and packages it in RW Lion's standard Italian anthology format alongside Detective Comics and Nightwing material. RW Lion's Italian DC publishing license ultimately ended in April 2020, when rights transferred to Panini Comics.
