The volume continues the series' blend of supernatural mystery and British schoolyard humor, with the young sleuths navigating both adolescent social dynamics and a genuinely eerie case.
In "The Case of the Simple Soul," John Allison crafts a warm, clever mystery where the kids of Bad Machinery take on a town-wide panic sparked by a series of arsons—and a misunderstood troll. With the tone balancing humor and heart, the story finds the group stepping in when an angry mob targets the gentle giant, leading to a surprising resolution and a new partnership with the fire department. The full art and inks by John Allison bring the quirky world to life, making this a standout entry in the series.
