Avengers World #7
Avengers World #7 is the first appearance of S.P.E.A.R. — China's answer to S.H.I.E.L.D. — along with its director Xian Zheng and the entire Ascendants super-team, making it one of the more ambitious attempts in the All-New Marvel NOW! era to expand the Marvel Universe beyond its traditional American and Western European geography. The issue reflects the series' core mandate of treating Earth as a genuinely global stage, introducing a fully realized Chinese intelligence infrastructure with its own airborne headquarters (the Circle), its own powered strike force, and its own ideological identity as a counterpart superpower to Western hero networks. Falcon serves as the Avengers' point-of-view character for these debuts, lending geopolitical weight to what is otherwise a mid-arc action issue. As the sole Marvel Universe origin point for S.P.E.A.R. and the Ascendants, the issue remains the foundational reference for any story exploring those characters.

Avengers World launched in January 2014 as part of the third wave of Marvel NOW!, co-written by Jonathan Hickman and Nick Spencer with art by Stefano Caselli. By issue #7 (released June 4, 2014, cover-dated August 2014), Spencer had taken sole writing duties, while Caselli — who alternated on art throughout the series — returned to pencil this installment. Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso oversaw the title, with Wil Moss as editor; colorist Andres Mossa and letterer Joe Caramagna completed the production team. Spencer's stated editorial philosophy for the series was explicitly geographic — to show what Marvel Earth looked like outside of New York and outer space — and issue #7 is the clearest execution of that ambition, channeling the post-Thanos-invasion geopolitical anxiety of the 616 into the creation of a new Chinese super-apparatus.
