The Marvel Action line was born from a licensing arrangement between Marvel and IDW Publishing, explicitly designed to produce all-ages comics free of decades of continuity baggage. Matthew K. Manning was tapped to write the Avengers title after his IDW work on Batman/TMNT Adventures and his encyclopedic Marvel reference books for DK Publishing. The original artist Jon Sommariva handled the first six issues, then departed to work on creator-owned projects, with Marcio Fiorito taking over the interior art from issue #7 onward — a transition Manning later acknowledged had been turbulent, complicated further by pandemic-related production delays that affected the back half of the run, including the issues surrounding #10.
